Solar Tube Lighting, Make The Most of The Greatest Free Resource; The Sun.
Solar tube lighting, is great for bringing natural light into your home and this is one free resource that everyone should consider using.
Solar tube lighting is perfect for where you want to bring natural light into say a windowless room. There are a few excellent variations on the market but one of the ones I like are Solar-Tube-Skylights. They work by way of a dome which is situated on the roof which soaks up the suns rays and guides the sunlight through a reflective aluminium tube. The captured sunlight is then directed to a defuser lens on the ceiling of a room bringing natural sunlight to that room. The Advantages? Because it is natural sunlight it is better for our eyes. Harmful UV rays are removed so that the sunlight is even better for us and also for our pets. Solar power as we know is a completely free resource and is eco-friendly and maintenance free so it makes sense to install such lighting fixtures in the home. The Disadvantages? They can be quite expensive, especially when you pay someone to install them for you but if you can my advice would be to have a go at installing them yourself. Most good retailers will supply a full set of detailed instructions and for anyone with reasonably good DIY skills it should`nt be too difficult a task. Below is a fine photograph example seen illuminating a very nice bathroom.

Solar LED Tube Lighting is my personal favourite as it combines free solar energy with the best light bulb available today in my opinion – the humble LED:-).
Here are some of the reasons why I highly recommend them:- - Solar Powered – FREE Energy Resource
- Easy to Install – No Messy Wiring Etc
- LED Light Bulbs – Last for 7 – 12 years + and Very Durable
- Ideal for Most Outdoor Lighting Projects
- Turn On and Off (Automatically) by Sensor
- LED Light Available in Red, Blue, Green Blue and White
- Available in a Multitude of Lengths/Sizes
There are many other versions of solar powered lighting fixtures of course such as solar walkway lighting, solar step lighting, solar deck lighting and others in the outdoor lighting family but did you know that solar indoor lighting is also available and solar tube lighting comes in both the indoor and outdoor versions. Going back to solar tube skylights, these are very intelligent form of lighting because the dome, which as mentioned earlier, is situated on the roof adjusts itself according to which way the sun is facing collecting the sunlight at varying angles therefore making it more efficient. In the final photo below is a solar powered closet light. By its very nature closets are usually very dark places without any windows so this type of lighting fixture is ideal here.

One last very important point about solar tube lighting is that the heat that they generate is minimal so this is great for when you have had a hot day and you want to relax in a cool room without the extra heat that other types of lighting might bring.
Overall, if you opt for this type of lighting you will not only save yourself money in the long run but you will also be helping to save our planet as solar energy is one of the greatest forms of free energy there is today.
