Outdoor Recessed Lighting, Recessed Lighting Design Tips and How To Use Them.

Outdoor Recessed Lighting or Exterior Recessed Lighting and the various ways that you can use them is a very important part of your Home Security Lighting layout, not only for illuminating your home.

The ideal place for these Gorgeously Cute Lighting Fixtures is under the outside porch area of your home. This is usually the most sheltered part of your homes exterior and bad weather elements that the changing seasons may bring will not ruin them but they can also be used though as Outdoor Step Lighting, Outdoor Walkway Lighting and other areas such is their versatility.

In the Photograph Below two delightful Recessed Lights are used to very good effect to add illumination to the porch area of a home. Also visible is a neat Wall Lantern. All in all a subtle, unobtrusive lighting setup I think you will agree which does the job very well.

As with most Lighting Fixtures, the idea is to try to get the balance right by making the light fittings that you install pleasing to the eye whilst at the same time trying to achieve the job they were put there to do, that is to shed light or illuminate a given space or area, in this case being your homes exterior.

Outdoor Recessed Lighting by its very nature is a subtle form of lighting, unlike say a chunky, glitzy crystal chandelier, so this must be born in mind when deciding on how many you will need and where one should situate them. By this I mean that as stand alone fixtures they do not throw out an enormous amount of light but as a group they work efficiently well together.

Listed below are various other related terms for these fixtures

  • Recessed Led Lighting
  • Wall Wash Recessed Lighting
  • Recessed Lighting Trim
  • Recessed Lighting Inserts
  • Recessed Lighting Placement
  • Recessed Can Lighting
  • Trimless Recessed Lighting
  • Recessed Garage Lighting
  • Low Voltage Recessed Lighting

They do a very good job of highlighting a “spot” or “area” so in this instance we could be talking about highlighting or “washing over” your front door, or window or any other spot or thing that you wish to illuminate and enhance.

Recessed Lighting Spacing

When it comes to Recessed Lighting Spacing there are a few things to consider. The first thing to consider is how many lights will you need to attain an adequate level of light for what you are trying to achieve?

A general guide is to space your lights at equal distances apart and depending on how big a space or “area” you have to work with the following guide will give you a fairly good starting point to work from:

For light fittings 4” in diameter… Space them at 3ft intervals; 6” diameter fixtures, space them at 4ft intervals and 8” fixtures, space them at 5ft intervals. The general rule of thumb is that the bigger the light fixture the wider apart one should space them but please remember this is only a general guide as other things may come in to play depending on the particular circumstances at the time .

In the second Photograph Below you will see how the owner has done a very neat job of spacing His or Hers` Outdoor Recessed Lighting evenly apart. With six lights in total this ensures that the porch and decking area is adequately illuminated at night bringing security and safety to the home in question and bringing a very attractive ambience to the front of the home.

As with all outdoor lighting do make sure that the fitting you purchase are meant for use Outside the home and not Indoors. Your lighting store will advise you on suitable options. For example if you are thinking of installing Outdoor Recessed Lighting in your decking area do ensure that the lights you opt for are made for external use and are suitably waterproofed and shielded against harsh weather conditions such as rain or snow.. (or both:-).

With all forms of lighting plan out your Recessed Lighting Layout carefully by getting a pen, or pencil, and paper, and work out firstly how many Recessed Ceiling Lights you will need. Most folk position their light fitments in a straight line (like an airport runway:-) but feel free to experiment while you are at the planning stage as the key and goal is getting it right in the end as opposed to getting there quickly!

When it comes to the question of How To Install Recessed Lighting or How to Wire Recessed Lighting this will depend on the type of fixture and where it will be installed. Because of the varying designs and style available it is best to refer to the installation guide that comes with your Outdoor Recessed Lighting and as with all things electrical we highly recommend that you use the services of a qualified electrician to install your fixtures.
