Monorail Lighting Fixtures, Delightful Lighting Fixtures for the Contemporary Home.

Monorail lighting fixtures, a member of the Track Lighting family are terrific for kitchens as they shed light incredibly well on those important areas where work-safety is a must.

What is Monorail Lighting?

They are very similar to track lighting and in fact come from the same family so the difference is very slight really (please see the photo below). The really great thing about them is the flexibility one gets in that you can bend them and shape them, they usually come in varying lengths too which is also a very good thing allowing you to add your own “mark” to your room.

These low voltage lighting fixtures are superb to use as kitchen lighting fixtures because one can buy them equipped with pendant light fittings that hang down quite low so that a good amount of light is emitted to illuminate such areas of the kitchen as worktops and sink areas etc so that your work can be done efficiently – and in safety too.

Lighting Layout

As mentioned there is great flexibility with these fixtures. They come in 4 or 8 foot lengths but one can join lengths together by purchasing “couplers” to make longer runs. Because monorail is bendable this gives you much more scope when laying out your lighting plan.

Drop

The monorails themselves are suspended lower down with aircraft cable or rods. As already mentioned on this page one can equip their monorail system with pendant light fittings that suspend downwards. The pendant lights can come in 2`s 3.`s 4`s (or more) depending on what you want to achieve in your room and the level of light desired.

Pictured below is a very nice example of this type of fixture.

The track part of monorail lighting fixtures are fairly standard although there are a number of sizes including widths and lengths on the market but the really neat part is when it comes to the light source..

Monorail lighting kits come in many sizes and are now reasonably cheap to acquire. Installing them is fairly straightforward too but we would always recommend that you employ the services of a qualified electrician. If you do decide to go down the DIY route do make sure that you read the installation instructions fully before undertaking such a task.

There are a multitude of heads one can use as pendants for your monorail lighting system, all manner of beautiful colours and finishes are readily available I am very pleased to say so when it comes to lighting fixture design and layout the “world is your oyster as the saying goes.”

Below is another lovely example of these beautiful fixtures

Monorail lighting fixtures are one of the most versatile on the market today. Heads come in the form of pendants (as already mentioned) and chandeliers but I love the pendantsJ. There are literally hundreds of different pendant fitments available so you can safely say there is something there for everyone.

Versatility

They can be mounted suspended from or close to the ceiling and because it is bendable it can curve round or even go in a complete circle. The flexibility of these fixtures means you can align them with or match the architecture in your room. When your friends and family see what you have accomplished there comment will be “how much did you pay your interior designer to have those installed” :-).
