Bedroom Lighting Fixtures, lighting fixtures to Set the Mood.

Bedroom lighting fixtures need to be mood-setters as well as to look aesthetically pleasing. Track lighting fixtures and pendant lighting fixtures are excellent choices as are chandelier lighting fixtures. All are superb options particularly when used in conjunction with a dimmer.

Once upon a time, not too many years ago in fact, the bedroom was merely a place where we simply spent our time sleeping but nowadays the bedroom is used for activities other than sleeping. Those activities might be reading, watching TV, or even working (say on a computer), or other similar activities.

A Blend of Bedroom Lighting Fixtures

It`s for this very reason that we need a variety of lighting fixtures, like led track lighting for example but another essential component where bedroom lighting fixtures are concerned is a dimmer. Dimmers are great for changing the mood or ambience of a room when it comes to lighting as they turn the level of light up or down at the twist of a wheel.

In the very tasteful photo below you will see two ceiling lighting fixtures which I think you will agree look very attractive.

Matching Bedroom Lighting Fixtures

In the above picture notice how the two delightful “twin” ceiling lighting fixtures run parallel to each other, one being in the bedroom and the other being in the hallway. When the bedroom doors are open it is clear that the ceiling lighting fixtures are an identical match hence both complement each other perfectly.

A nice combination of lighting fixtures for most bedrooms I feel would be as follows:

  • Pendant Lighting Fixture, ideally located in the center of the ceiling
  • Led Track Lighting Fixture, on ceiling, close to wardrobes or dressing table
  • Table Lamps; One either side of the bed
  • Wall Lighting Fixtures; two of these would be optional, depending on the size of the bedroom
  • Floor Lamps; Two placed in opposite corners of the room

Bedside Lighting

In place of (or in addition to) you could always opt for a nice pair of adjustable wall bedside lights If you like to read in bed. The great thing about table lamps or bedside lights is that they are in easy reach so you don`t have to get out of bed to turn them on or off.

With adjustable lights you can point them in different directions, they are very adaptable. Every modern bedroom should have a couple of these very handy lights :-).

Bedroom Lighting Fixtures

In the above photo you will see a contemporary bedroom with a modern lighting layout. Recessed lighting fixtures set into the ceiling look lovely as you can see and the two bedside table lamps also look delightful, setting the scene very well for whatever you want to do in the bedroom – including going to sleep of course :-).

As mentioned, a central ceiling light fitting work great in most every room not just the bedroom. When it comes to Bedroom Lighting Fixtures this will usually be the main focal point of the room therefore centralise it if you can.

Subtlety is Key

Crystal chandeliers are fine but my advice would be to keep things subtle, not too overdone and elaborate. Less is usually more when it comes to ceiling lighting for the bedroom. No bigger than a 6 light chandelier is a good rule of thumb.

An additional track lighting fixture is fine and as mentioned earlier try to install your fixture above or close by your wardrobe or dressing table so that the light will wash over the area where you will get dressed, apply make-up.. and so on.

Dimmers

As also mentioned dimmers are excellent for setting certain moods by raising or lowering the light level. Dimmers can normally be used in conjunction with most lighting fixtures but you may want to consider separate dimmers for different light fixtures so that you have more control of your lighting set-up.

In the last photo below see how a delightful track lighting fixture sheds light on a couple of wall mounted pictures. Track lighting is great for this but the subject matter could be anything really, like a family portrait, a statue, let your imagination be your guide.

Bedroom Lighting Fixtures

Bedroom Lighting Fixtures

Below are some of the lighting fixtures that you might consider installing in your bedroom. Much will depend on the size of your bedroom of course but all of the fixtures listed below would go very well in most contemporary bedrooms it is just a matter of getting the right blend.

By simply clicking on the links below you will navigate to the relevant web-pages.

Bedroom Ceiling Lighting

Bedroom Ceiling Lighting is the first point of call when it comes to bedroom lighting fixtures.

A nice medium sized chandelier, with say 6 lights would be a good choice. Maria Theresa style offers stylish design and usually come in gold or silver finish but remember to consider the décor of the room where the fixture is going when it comes to choosing a suitable finish.

Recessed Ceiling Lighting

Recessed Ceiling Lighting is a very cool type of lighting fixture that many modern homes are now equipped with.

This type of lighting, just like flush mount chandliers, are great to go in rooms where the ceiling is low because the lights themselves are actually “set-into” the ceiling and they only protrude ever so slightly. They go well in most every room and there are many varied styles available.

Flush Mount

Flush Mount Chandeliers are great if your ceiling happens to be low because as the name suggests they fit snug to the ceiling without the need for a chain.

They usually come in the crystal chandelier form (which are my preferred choice) but one good tip is to make sure that the crystals themselves are full lead as this type of crystal give the best refractory values, meaning, you get the nice rainbow effect when the light shines through the crystal. Truly stunning and beautiful.

Modern Pendant Lighting

Modern Pendant Lighting are superb lighting fixtures and come in many styles and designs. Their diversity means that it is easy to find one that will suit your needs in that there will be plenty that match the existing décor in the room where you want your lighting fixture to go.

If your bedroom has many colours and shapes to it try to make sure that the finish of your lighting fixtures match as this in itself will add balance to the room.

Cable Lighting Fixtures

Cable Lighting Fixtures are particularly useful for vaulted ceilings and unusual shaped ceilings as the lighting fixtures themselves are very adaptable.

They are great for running along walls or on the ceiling next to an adjoining wall or to run around say an arch or other section of the room that may have difficult terrain.

Track Lighting Fixtures

Track Lighting Fixture. These should be an essential part of your bedroom ceiling lighting in my humble opinion.

The reason is you can buy them with adjustable heads so that you can direct the light beam wherever you wish. If, like me, you change your bedroom around a lot then you just need to adjust the track lighting heads accordingly to shed light on the area of your choosing.

Wall Lighting Fixtures

Wall Lighting. Is ideal for placing either side of the bed or either side of the bedroom mirror if you have one. As mentioned previously adjustable wall lights are excellent if you read in bed or if say you need to get up in the middle of the night.

Wall lights are one of the best lighting fixtures to add balance to a room and for bringing your bedroom décor to life and highlighting selected areas of the room.

Table Lamps

Table Lamps are one of the most versatile and under estimated lighting fixtures. So adaptable because you can move them around to anywhere where a wall socket is in handy reach (most modern bedrooms have at least two wall sockets).

Without exaggeration table lamps come in a vast array of different styles and designs which is a testament to their charm and popularity. I really love them don`t you :-).

Floor Lamps

Floor Lamps are another very adept lighting fixture in the “have wall socket, will travel”variety:-).

Once again there are many varying styles and designs to choose from when it comes to Bedroom Lighting Fixtures and I love it when you have a matching floor lamp and table lamp (as seen when you click on the above Floor Lamp link).

To Summarise

In these modern times lighting fixtures are an essential element of not just the bedroom but for every room in the house. For this reason we need to choose them carefully just like we would spend time over choosing say furniture or a TV or any other essential accessory for the home.

Try to make sure that the finish of the fixtures you choose are the same or similar. A dimmer as already mentioned is a very important component of your Bedroom Lighting Fixtures layout and they can be picked up fairly cheaply but whatever you opt for I am sure that you will make the right choices, just let your creative juices flow and I am sure that will achieve a lighting layout to be proud of :-).
