For example I recently came across a website where an exquisite piece by French Sculptor Pierre Le Faguays was up for sale at $7,000.00. This might seem very costly but when you consider them as works of art and not merely a lighting fixture per se you will see why they have such expensive price tags.

Pictured below is a delightful model finished in silver with a nice single shade at the top. The simple design of this particular model makes it very endearing. It is easy to match to different decors in the home and a good stand alone lighting fixture in its own right.

Reproduction models of these exquisite pieces have a quite a lot going for them. One advantage being that you can usually buy them in matching sets with say art deco chandeliers, art deco floor lamps or other charming members of the same family…

You also have the added advantage of being able to get replacement parts for reproduction models quite easily so these two points alone are very good reasons to consider both options carefully.

Last but not least, of course, is the cost. There are MANY reproduction lighting fixtures on the market today including I am very pleased to say the art deco table lamp. The cost of repro models can be anything from $25 and upwards so there is usually one to suit every pocket.

Do`s and Dont`s when buying Originals

If you do decide to buy an original model, then “congratulations,” but do make sure that you have it independently valued if possible and also have it insured. Take a number of photographs of it from different angles and store the photos in a safe place. Consider having the object d`art invisibly marked in case it gets stolen.

This may seem like stating the obvious but try to position the table lamp in such a way to avoid accidental damage, particularly if it has a lot of glass and is very fragile. Carefully move the art deco lamp. into another room if you are say redecorating, or undertaking some other type of potentially hazardous activity. Better to be safe than sorry.
