Art Deco Lamps, Beautiful, Classical, Lighting Fixtures from the Art Deco Period.

Art Deco Lamps and art deco lighting like art deco floor lamps, art deco chandeliers and art deco lighting fixtures. are beautiful, classical pieces from the 1920`s and 1930`s which I simply adore don`t you:-).

The ”Art Deco Period” began in the 1920`s and lasted well into the 1940`s. Art deco, generally, was most popular during the roaring 20`s where during this period this style was seen as very glamorous and stylish.

Art Deco influenced many forms including (but not least) building architecture with geometric designs, zigzag patterns, chevrons and other wonderful styles and designs that we still find so unique and adorable today..

Art Deco Lamps were part of not only art deco houses but were also abundantly found in commercial premises such as hotels and an array of other stylishly detailed public buildings. This delightful architecture remains today in many countries throughout the world in beautiful buildings both commercial and private and quite a few of these buildings still have their original art deco lighting fixtures installed today.

In the photograph below you will see a beautiful art deco chandelier from the Art Deco Period. Such is their popularity many reproduction models of art deco lamps have been made since their inception in the 20`s which is a testament to their quality and beauty because as we know imitation is the sincerest form of flattery:-).

As with many forms of lighting, reproduction models can be picked up quite cheaply whether it be ones like Murano, Victorian or other timeless “copies” there are many available today and they are usually cheaper than original models. Original art deco lamps can cost anything from a few hundred dollars up to many thousands of dollars depending on the condition and rareness of the art deco light fixtures in question.

Advantages of Reproduction Models over Originals?
The main advantage of going down the repro route is that you will have a much wider choice and also of equal importance you will be able to buy matching sets with identical finishes and styles.

For example it would be quite easy to find a supplier that sells reproduction art deco chandeliers with matching art deco wall lights but it would be much more difficult to get a similar matching set, where originals are concerned, although it would be possible.

In the next photo you will see a very nice art deco table lamp, very typical of this period. The contrasting white and black look very appealing and would complement most modern homes of today I hope you will agree and is a very typical example of art deco lamps of the day.

Should I buy the Original Version?
As mentioned previously reproduction models have a lot going for them. This would apply to antiques or any other vintage items but with originals of art deco lamps you have the kudos factor knowing that you will be owning an original, and the real thing, so to speak - meaning you will probably be the envy of your family and friends:-).

Appealingly "Unique Condition"
One thing to remember, when it comes to originals, is that rarely will you will find one in perfect condition. Their “well used” and “well worn” condition is part of their appeal and shows authenticity so please bear this in mind when making your choice as slight tarnishing and imperfections is the norm when it comes to the originals.

Replacement Parts
Another important factor is that when it comes to reproduction versions spare parts are usually readily available. So, say for instance you broke one of the glass shades on your beautiful reproduction art deco chandelier, then buying a replacement shade should`nt be too much of a problem. Much more difficult of course (if near on impossible) to buy the same replacement glass shade for an original art deco chandelier.

Art Deco Lady Lamp

I hope you like the above photo of a “lady posing” art deco table lamp. These were also typical of the day and many similarly stunning beauties such as this became fashionable and were in high demand – as they still are today I am very pleased to say.

Art Deco Table Lamp

Art Deco Table Lamp are classical objects d`art that I particularly love for their cuteness and also as they give you that "wow factor!" The rare ones are very collectible and have expensive price tags but when you have owned one of the delightful beauties you will never look back as they are items to cherish and are simply adorable:-)

Art Deco Floor lamps

Art Deco Floor Lamps also have that wow factor and like their sister the art deco table lamp they are very adaptable being as they are portable. They come in a multitude of designs and colours and can be moved from room to room. Basically, "Have-electrical-socket-nearby-will- travel" should be their catchphrase:-).

Art Deco Chandeliers

Art Deco Chandeliers as seen in the first charming photograph above are equally beautiful pieces which evoke memories of a bygone era. Originals in excellent condition are highly collectable and can cost many hundreds to many thousands of dollars so it will probably be best to opt for the repro version if you want to save yourself money and the headache of finding one to suit your requirements if you do decide to go down the original route.

Art Deco Wall Lights

Art Deco Wall Lights some times known as Wall Sconces also come in a variety of styles, designs and finishes. They come with arms, glass, or plastic shades and many other styles and all manner of geometric shapes as with most art deco products. I personally prefer the polished chrome ones as the go with most modern decors and they are also easy to keep clean but brass and copper finished ones are also very nice too.

To Summarize

Whether you opt for the real thing in the original versions or reproduction models try to buy them in matching sets if you can as this is the best way to make sure that your Art Deco lamps blend in with the décor in your home. My personal favourites are reproduction models as their plusses far outweigh their minuses.

The Main Plus-Points being:

  • Availability of spare parts
  • Ability to buy matching sets
  • The all important low cost compared to original models
